Bufflehead Ducks

Bufflehead Ducks

William Byrd Park photo session with Clyde Cornett in early January; met at Shields Lake just after sunrise; overcast conditions provided too little light for shooting geese and ducks in action, so we went to Byrd Park Pump House (aka New Pump-House) at south end of west side of Byrd Park; better light upon return to Shields Lake, but more birds at Swan Lake (just north of Shields Lake), and shot until sun created bad light; used gimbal feature of Acratech Ball Head for first time — it worked quite well, balancing 5D4 and EF 300/4 L + EF 1.4x III Extender very nicely, while allowing easy movement up and down (gimbal feature), as well as left and right (panning); saw mostly Canada geese, but also some other geese and ducks; the bufflehead ducks (small North American diving ducks) identified from Ducks Unlimited info online
